How to clip a Kick VOD for Instagram Reels

Kick VODs import from a plain link, which makes them the least painful source to clip. The work is the same as anywhere: find the moments, crop wide to tall without losing the webcam, and caption for a feed that plays muted.

About 5 minutes per clip No download needed

1Get the VOD link

On Kick, open your channel's Videos tab (or the creator dashboard) and copy the URL of the past broadcast. Both VOD links and Kick clip links work. Paste it and the file is pulled on our servers — you are not uploading three hours of stream from your own connection.

Kick does not hide public VODs behind a sign-in wall, so link imports here are more reliable than on platforms that do. If a link ever refuses, download the file and upload it instead; nothing else about the process changes.

2Find the moments

Your chat is the cheapest highlight detector you have. Watch the replay and look for message bursts — chat reacts within a second or two of anything worth clipping, and the spike is almost always a second or two after the moment itself, so start your clip slightly before it.

ClipFinder does this pass for you: it reads the VOD's audio and samples frames, then hands back candidate moments already trimmed. Keep what you like, bin the rest.

3Crop for Reels, not for the archive

A stream layout is wide and busy: webcam in a corner, gameplay filling the middle, alerts and chat round the edges. Cropping the centre of that frame to 9:16 usually throws away the webcam, which is the part people are actually there for.

  • Follow the speaker — the crop tracks the face through the clip. Best for just-chatting and reactions.
  • Split the screen — cam on top, gameplay below, both visible. Use it when the reaction and its cause both matter.
  • Fixed crop — fine when nothing moves.

4Caption it, and lose the watermark

Reels autoplay muted in a scroll. Burned-in captions are what make a clip readable in the first second, and they come from the clip's own audio, so there is nothing to type. Keep text in the middle third — Instagram's own UI covers the bottom.

Export without a watermark. Instagram has said it suppresses visibly recycled content, so a clip stamped with another app's logo is working against you.

5Length

Reels allows up to three minutes, but stream clips do their best work at 15–60 seconds. Cut the run-up. There is no thumbnail and no title to set expectations — the first frame and the first spoken line are all you get.

6Questions people ask

Can I clip someone else's Kick stream?

Only with their permission, or where fair use applies where you live. Many streamers are happy to be clipped with credit — it is worth asking rather than assuming.

What does it cost?

$7 for one video, no account needed. Plans start at $49/month for 15 videos (sources up to 30 minutes), and there is a Streamer plan that auto-clips while you are live.

Does this work for Twitch and YouTube too?

Yes — see Twitch VOD → TikTok and YouTube → Shorts.

7Try it on your last stream

Paste a Kick VOD link and see what comes out. You can edit by hand at any point.
